AI's Leap Forward: Gemini, AI-Optimized PCs, and Open-Source Ventures
Happy Sunday!
Knock, knock. Who’s there? It’s “AI Weekly Insights #9”, that’s who! This week, we're diving into the latest AI developments from Google, Apple, and a sneak peek into the future of AI PCs.
For the week of 12/03/23-12/09/23 (P.S. Click the story’s title for more information 😊):
What’s New: Google has just launched Gemini, its most advanced AI model to date, initially teased at their June I/O conference.
Key Highlights:
Gemini Variants: Gemini Nano for offline and Android devices, Gemini Pro which will power Google services and currently powers Google Bard, and Gemini Ultra for enterprise and advanced use cases.
Benchmark Achievement: Gemini outperformed GPT-4 (developed by OpenAI and used in ChatGPT) in 30 out of 32 benchmarks.
Multimodal Capabilities: The model was trained from the start to understand text, audio, and video to generate responses.
Developer Access: Developers will be able to start building with Gemini starting on December 13th in Google’s free AI Studio tool.
Why It Matters: Google declared itself an “AI-first” company 8 years ago, and a lot of the foundational technology that powers generative AI was developed by Google. Gemini represents a significant milestone in the development of AI. Check out the video below to see Gemini in action:
What's New: A new leak is suggesting that Windows 12 will be released next year alongside PCs utilizing hardware suited for AI development.
The Scoop: The rumor is that Windows 12 will be released in June 2024 alongside new hardware that would be similar to Apple’s M-Series silicon. Reportedly, other industry-leading PC companies are excited at "the first year of AI PC" and the business opportunities that could come with it.
Why It Matters: While details are scarce about Windows 12, I can imagine AI playing a large role in Microsoft’s PC strategy going forward, especially with the recent release of Copilot. It's interesting to consider if the new OS will require this new AI-optimized hardware as a standard in the future.

What's New: Apple has released a free and open-source framework for other AI developers to build on with Apple Silicon.
MLX Insights: The framework, which was released on GitHub, was created by Apple’s machine learning researchers. It is intended to be user-friendly, but still efficient to train and deploy models. Its main purpose is mainly to be tested and improved on by other developers.
Why It Matters: Apple has been perceived to be behind the rest of the industry in AI, though this could be due to them regularly referring to it as Machine Learning. This was also a fairly quiet announcement where Apple is choosing to contribute to open-source AI development.

AI Project Showcase
Generative AI has sparked a wave of creativity, leading to a plethora of innovative projects. Here’s one that caught my eye:
😎 AgentGPT 🧠
AgentGPT is a project that allows you to configure and deploy Autonomous AI agents. Name a custom AI and have it attempt to reach any goal by thinking of tasks to do, executing them, and learning from the results.
AgentGPT can achieve goals by chaining calls to LLMs such as GPT-4 and can understand objectives, implement strategies, and deliver results without human intervention. The platform is currently in beta with a list of planned features found on their public roadmap.
I am happy to spotlight the project! Show your support by clicking the title or visiting: https://github.com/reworkd/AgentGPT
Prompt of the Week
Use generative AI to act as a personal trainer and craft the perfect tailored workout plan:
“I want you to act as a personal trainer. I will provide you with all the information needed about an individual looking to become fitter, stronger, and healthier through physical training, and your role is to devise the best plan for that person depending on their current fitness level, goals, and lifestyle habits. You should use your knowledge of exercise science, nutrition advice, and other relevant factors to create a plan suitable for them. Please ask questions to determine the individual’s needs and then present the plan.“
Your curiosity fuels this exploration into AI's evolving landscape. Share these insights with pals who'd love a weekly AI digest 🔄. Drop a comment or hit reply to share your thoughts. See you next Sunday!
Warm regards,
